LCA Breeders of Leonbergers

LCA Breeders Are Different

The motto of the Leonberger Club
of America is "Great Dogs - Great People"; we happen to agree! All LCA
breeders agree to adhere to minimum breeding requirements. LCA member
breeders are generally conscientious about controlling and eliminating
inherited problems. They are required to have all their breeding
dogs AKC registered, in good health, and tested for a variety of
inherited diseases. LCA breeders agree to not breed young or old
bitches and afford their bitches a year's rest between breedings.
All LCA breeders screen their breeding stock for hip dysplasia and
refrain from using dysplastic dogs. Many LCA breeders go above and
beyond for the best of the breed. The LCA Member Practices are
available here.
The Vision Of Responsible Breeders
Most LCA breeders are long time members of the LCA in good standing and have a thorough knowledge of the breed. As a rule, breeders have a working partnership with other LCA breeders and are part of a community dedicated to the success of the breed. The majority of LCA breeders complete BACLs (a formal assessment of phenotype) on their show stock prior to breeding. A good number of LCA breeders are thoroughly dedicated to bettering the breed, producing high quality Leonbergers, and making their decisions based on the chances for the best results rather than for the sake of convenience. Nearly all LCA breeders thoroughly vet prospective Leonberger puppy buyers before placing a Leonberger in their home.
Sforzando Strives For The Best
Our kennel holds these as minimum requirements for the breeding of exemplary Leonbergers. We strive to produce beautiful, sound, and healthy Leos with strong type and to secure them the most appropriate homes available. We breed only occasionally and dedicate hundreds of hours to the long term success of every Leonberger puppy in every litter. Our Leonbergers are a focal point in our lives and the planning, love, and attention-to-detail reward the owners of our Leonberger dogs in ways which are difficult to quantify, but easy to qualify. Once you meet one of our Leonberger puppies, you know that our Leos are much more than just another dog. They are something special!
